Worship – August 2nd – Unexpected Lunch

Welcome to Shepherd of the Hill’s online worship! We are thankful that you have come to this corner of the internet for some of God’s Word and time for reflection and worship. As you engage the below worship service, you are encouraged to quiet the world around you. Turn off or silence your phone. Find a quiet spot in your house or outdoors.

The service is approximately 30 minutes in length if you follow all the pieces. Songs have been contributed by our Worship Team and our traditional service pianist. Our lectors have recorded the readings. Pastor Adam has recorded a sermon for viewing. There is also liturgy (litanies, prayers, calls to worship) contained in the service. If you are worshiping with someone, please share the reading of these pieces with them.

Call to Worship – Isaiah 55:1-3
Come to the water, all you who thirst—
come drink deeply from the river of life.

Come to the water, all you who are weary—
come rest in the quiet pools of God’s love.

Come to the water, all you who long for a justice—
come be renewed in God’s ever-flowing stream.

For God is here among us,
washing away the dust and grime of our lives,
and pouring out the Spirit on all who thirst.
Let’s worship God together.

Gathering Song – Bind Us Together
Performed by the SOTH Worship Team

Gathering Prayer
Five loaves and two fish
are never enough
until you start
giving it away.
Dear God,
Remind us to
share
whatever
is in our basket
today.
You will do the rest.
Amen.

Psalm Reading – Psalm 145:8-9, 14-21
8The Lord is gracious and full of compassion,
  slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9Lord, you are good to all,
and your compassion is over all your works.

14The Lord upholds all those who fall
  and lifts up those who are bowed down.
15The eyes of all wait upon you, O Lord,
and you give them their food in due season.

16You open wide your hand
  and satisfy the desire of every living thing.
17You are righteous in all your ways
and loving in all your works.

18You are near to all who call upon you,
  to all who call upon you faithfully.
19You fulfill the desire of those who fear you;
you hear their cry and save them.

20You watch over all those who love you,
  but all the wicked you shall destroy.
21My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord;
let all flesh bless God’s holy name forever and ever.

Centering Songs

Traditional – Lord, Whose Love in Humble Service

Contemporary – Touch the Sky

Prayers
Loving God,
You are our Creator and Sustainer.
When You open Your hand,
You satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing.
And so we look to You whenever we are in need,
trusting in Your love and Your abundant goodness.

As You once fed the hungry crowds with five loaves and two small fish,
we ask that You would again fill those who are empty this day.
Pour out Your Spirit for all who hunger and thirst.

We pray for those who are physically hungry—whose stomachs are empty.
We think especially of the people in Coconino County
who are facing loss of wages and compromised health;
who are suffering from food insecurity;
Lord, in Your mercy, open Your hand.
Pour out Your Spirit on us, so that they may be filled.

We pray for those who are empty emotionally—
who are lonely and isolated during this time,
who are caught in the grip of depression,
or overwhelmed with grief.
Lord, in Your mercy, open Your hand.
Pour out Your Spirit on us, so that they may be filled.

We pray for those who are spiritually empty—
who are troubled, but don’t know where to turn;
who long for purpose and meaning, but don’t know where to look;
who need You, but do not yet know You.
Lord, in Your mercy, open Your hand.
Pour out Your Spirit on us, so that they may be filled.

God, we praise You for Your abundant gifts in our lives.
Pour out Your Spirit on us as well.
Fill us with Your compassion and love,
so that we would willingly share some of our abundance
with those who have need.
Lord, in Your mercy, open Your hand.
Pour out Your Spirit on us, so that we may be filled.

We pray in the name of Jesus Christ,
who came so that all of humanity might come to know
the abundant life that comes from You.
Amen.

Giving and Offering
Shepherd of the Hills is very blessed and grateful for your continued financial support during this difficult time of physical distancing required by the COVID-19 pandemic. Your giving allows us to continue to provide worship, support and outreach until it is safe to gather in person again. We realize that the pandemic has caused many financial challenges. As your finances allow, please consider continuing to support our shared ministries.

There are two ways to give:
– Mail your tithe or offering to the church office. The office will remain open for normal business hours.
– Give online! Our online giving is secure and fully operational. It can be found here.

Thank you again for helping us continue to spread God’s Word and help those in need during these challenging times.
