Easter Morning Worship – 2020

How to Use This Resource – Easter Morning Edition – There are many pieces of our in-person celebration of the resurrection that we can’t replicate online. You have the feel of the palpable joy of our congregation gathered together for that moment. You have the sight of the sun streaming in the windows of the church. You have the smell of breakfast being cooked by our youth, Easter morning is an experience for the senses. As and after you celebrate this worship service, you are encouraged to think about how to draw your senses into the experience. Call a friend or loved one and feel the joy in their voice at the sound of yours. Position yourself where the light of the new morning can flow over you. And, yes, cook some bacon or a pancake or two. Immerse yourself in the experience of Easter at home. Christ is risen!

Gathering Song – Jesus Christ is Risen Today
Performed by the Colvard Family

We have our Easter morning brass!

Call to Worship
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed. Alleluia!

Let us praise our God!
He has given us new life and hope.
He has emptied the tomb!

God has claimed us as his own.
He has brought us out of darkness.
He has made us light to the world.

Alleluia! Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed. Alleluia!

Questions and Action for Reflection
What emotions do you think the women experienced on that Easter morning?

When have you experienced the absence of something as a ‘good’ thing?

What would new life in the world look like to you today?

Action – Write down on ribbon or paper what ‘new life’ you want to see in the world around you. Post it to your door or windows for the world to see!

Affirmation of Faith – Apostles Creed
We boldly declare inside our homes, to those who gather with us, to the cloud of witnesses that surround us, the faith that we hold close in times of joy and suffering: a faith in new life that cannot be bound to a single place or time:
We believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever.

Go out now, blessed with the gift of new life.
Let your words and actions tell of the resurrection,
Celebrate your new life with those around you
Keep joy and excitement in your hearts
And proclaim forgiveness and healing to all!

And may God raise you from death to life,
May Christ Jesus cast out your fear and doubt;
And may the Holy Spirit give your heart endless joy,
Alleluia! Amen!
